The Portland Timbers continue to make important moves in the offseason in their quest of building a contender, after announcing today that goalkeeper Steve Clark is given a new contract.
The man had an amazing season under the arches of the Portland Timbers claiming the starting position and never letting it go in what many could state as a comeback of the year.
For the man acquired off waivers from DC United in 2018, Steve Clark 33, has appeared in 32 regular-season matches in the past two seasons totaling (30 starts).
In 2019 the man became a sensation under the arches of the Timbers and being an important part of the Rose City defensive game.
With six shutouts, 89 saves and ranked second in MLS in goals average (1.04) and fourth in save percentage (77.2).
As Timbers general manager and president of Soccer Gavin Wilkinson, the man has been hard at work in building a contender to face off in what seems to be another contested season ahead in MLS.
A 14-year career for Steve Clark starting in his native Michigan with USL sides in 2005 West Michigan Edge, 2006-2009 Michigan Bucks and later in 2009 moving to Charleston Battery.
In 2010-2013 Steve Clark played in Europe for Norwegian side Hønefoss BK recording 97 appearances and 28 shutouts and in 2017 for Danish Superliga side AC Horsens recording 17 starts and 4 shutouts.
His return to MLS came in 2014-2016 with the Columbus Crew in 100 regular season matches Clark logged 22 shutouts and ranked among the top 5 in saves among MLS goalkeepers, moving to DC United from 2017-2018.
Immediately of the new contract, Portland Timbers manager Giovanni Savarese spoke of the importance of Steve to the team and the way his experience and consistency will be an asset for the team.
