FOXBOROUGH, MA— New England Revolution head coach Bruce Arena placed on administrative leave pending internal investigation.
On Tuesday, August 1st, the New England Revolution released a statement that, “Head Coach Bruce Arena has been placed on administrative leave pending a review into allegations that he made insensitive and inappropriate remarks”. The team made sure to note that this was not a health-related issue for Arena’s absence.
Arena was not present at team activities on Sunday and Monday according to sources close to the team.
Players were also notified on Sunday by President Brian Bilello during a meeting and have yet to give any more details publicly.
The team also announced that Technical Director Curt Onalfo would interim duties as Sporting Director, and assistant coach Richie Williams would be appointed as interim Head Coach until completion of the investigation.
At this time, Arena and his agent, the league, and the club have yet to comment on the ongoing investigation.
According to The Athletics’ Pablo Maurer, “As of Thursday morning, Arena himself had not been informed of the specific allegation or allegations made against him”.
