Preview: Dynamo vs. Fire

Houston Dynamo (9-10-3, 9th in West) vs. Chicago Fire (5-10-9, 11th in East)

The Chicago Fire will look to have the same luck that the Red Stars have had at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Red Stars won both their games against the Houston Dash there, the Fire have not won any road match in 434 days. That includes being winless in 11 this season and are winless in five league matches overall.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to return to the Fire lineup after playing 45 minutes in the MLS All-Star Game last Wednesday in Orlando. Jonathan Bornstein had an auspicious Fire debut—his first MLS match in nine years after years in Liga MX and Israel.

The Dynamo have lost four of their last five and are currently one point below the red line with two teams to pass. Last week, the Dynamo suffered their second home loss of the year to Seattle. Houston thought Jordan Morris’s goal should have been disallowed due to a foul before.

The Dynamo have four players in yellow card peril including AJ DeLaGarza, Maynor Figueroa, and second-leading goalscorer Alberth Elis.

The Fire need to find a way to score goals, plain and simple. You can’t win if you can’t score. Fire captain has said that the Fire need at least 21 points from the final 30 on offer to have a shot of making the playoffs. That means they will need at least nine away from home assuming they win all four of their remaining home games. Three points in Houston would be a good place to start.

Kickoff is at 8pm CT on ESPN+.
