Lackluster Lions leave a lot to be desired

Lackluster: adj: meaning lacking in vitality, force, or conviction, uninspired or uninspiring.

This is the word that describes Orlando City’s defense for most of the season, Sunday night was no exception. The new coach’s honeymoon ended very shortly as the Lions lost to the Sounders on Sunday night at home. This was the first time Orlando City has lost at home in over year. (July 18 2015)  Not only did the home unbeaten streak get broken but the the fans did not get their half  price Papa John’s.

Seattle’s new CAM Nicolas Loderio looked fantastic. He strung passes together with pin-point accuracy as the Orlando defense got dominated in the 3-1 loss. Kreis learned quickly that the center half pairing of Hines and Mateos is one of the worst in MLS. Of all players on the Sounders roster the Lions allowed Clint Dempsey to score a hat trick. On the third goal Bendik may have fluffed his line a little but playing with almost no coverage in front of him for the entire second half of the game, it is forgivable.

On a positive note, the next game is away against the Chicago Fire. The Fire are currently the worst team in the league. With that said, Orlando struggles against the Fire as they were a boogey team for the lions last year (losing to Chicago twice).

One final thought: David Mateos who has been terrible for a long portion of the season is not available for the next game. Lions fans are hoping to the loanee they just brought in Aja to start or will see Tommy Redding return from injury. Either of them should be an upgrade.
