Seattle Sounders 1-Real Salt Lake 0
The Seattle Sounders are trying something new in 2019: win matches early in the season. Normally the side that likes to make the second half surge the Sounders have taken it to their opponents early in 2019. On Saturday night at CenturyLink Field the continued their strong run through the league, beating Real Salt Lake by the score of 1-0.
Seattle’s trademark early in this season has been a mix of incredible goals and some wizardry on the defensive front. That was once again on full display as Nico Lodeiro buried a volley home in the 18th minute to give his side the 1-0 lead. Real made things interesting for the home side, using the speed of Jefferson Savarino to force Seattle to chase in their own defensive third. His shot in the 73rd minute beat goalkeeper Stefan Frei but was ultimately denied by the woodwork. Frei had another professional performance for the Sounders, making four saves en route to earning his third shutout of the season.
With the win Seattle maintained their unbeaten record (4-0-1, 13 points) in 2019 and snapped a four game losing streak to RSL. They will travel to Colorado on Wednesday to take on the Rapids (9pm EST/6PM PST, ESPN +).
