Colorado Rapids 1-LAFC 0
It wasn’t long ago that all seemed lost with the Colorado Rapids. After firing their hard coach and going winless in their first twelve matches it appeared as if this might be another lost season for the side. But the side under new coach Conor Casey seem to have found their spark as evidenced by their 1-0 win over LAFC on Friday night.
The Rapids attack wasn’t the only thing lighting up the sky at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. After Danny Wilson gave the home side the lead with a header in the 49th minute the match went on an hour delay after lightning was spotted in the area. When play resumed the Rapids defense faced a series of challenges from LAFC’s vaunted attack. They held their own with goalkeeper Tim Howard making three saves in the second half including a diving effort on a shot from Rodrigo Zelaya in injury time.
LAFC (11-2-4, 37 points) retained their six point cushion in the West after the Los Angeles Galaxy lost to the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. They will continue their road swing on Wednesday when they take on Sporting Kansas City (8:30pm EST, ESPN+).
Meanwhile Colorado (5-9-4, 19 points) continued their positive run of form winning their fifth match out of their last seven. They will host the New England Revolution on Thursday (9pm EST, ESPN +).
