Vancouver Whitecaps 1-Seattle Sounders 2

The Cascadia Cup is headed off to Seattle. Thanks to a pair of first-half goals and some solid defending in the second half the Seattle Sounders clinched the Cup defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1.

After surviving an early scare from the Whitecaps and Nicolas Mezquida, who missed an open chance in the 11th minute, the Sounders attack went to work using their speed to break open Vancouver. Raul Ruidiaz finished off a Kevin Leerdam pass into the box to put Seattle up 1-0 in the 21st minute. He added a second in the 42nd minute, finishing off a duffed clear by Brett Levis to earn his fifth goal of the match. Vancouver did get one back just before halftime with Kei Kamara (45+4′) notching his twelfth of the season. But the Sounders would hold their ground and earn the three points with goalkeeper Stefan Frei making four saves.

With the win, Seattle earned their fifth Cascadia Cup in the club’s history. They also moved into fifth place in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference standings (13-8-8, 47 points) just ahead of the Portland Timbers (12-8-8, 44 points) and Vancouver (11-10-7, 40 points).
