El Salvador 0-Jamaica 0
The Gold Cup arrived in Houston and left a 0-0 draw in the first match of the double header between La Selecta and the Reggae Boys. Now both teams have 4 points and have everything in their hands to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinals.
The match was very well fought from the beginning. Jamaica created more chances to score, but they were not as clear as they would like to. The long ball possession was something both teams wanted. An indicative of that was the final stats that showed that El Salvador had the ball 45% of the time, with Jamaica controlling the ball the remaining 55% of the 90 minutes.
It was evident both teams wanted to get at least a point to control their own destiny to advance to the next round. They did not want to risk losing, and that fear of going for a goal to win the match, made both teams to miss chances in the final third.
El Salvador is having a good tournament so far and will try to seal their spot in the quarterfinals when they face Honduras in the last match of the group stage. On the other hand, Jamaica will try to do the same as they face Curacao, who comes to this match in great form after getting their first-ever Gold Cup win against Honduras. Group C action will finish in Los Angeles, California.
