Steve Wilson traveled from Afghanistan in the hope that he might be able to see the Timbers win the MLS Cup.

It took seven separate planes, but Steve Wilson made the trip to Afghanistan to Columbus and will be among the hundreds of hundreds of Timbers fans descending upon MAPFRE Stadium this weekend.

“It wasn’t until I got closer and closer to Columbus and seeing all the Timbers scarves and people started asking from where I’m coming from that they started saying, ‘Yeah, you’re crazy.”

But with the Timbers making their first ever appearance in an MLS Cup, Wilson, a contractor in Afghanistan wasn’t going to miss it.

“I started Wednesday night Pacific started traveling from Afghanistan night with a fifteen hour stop at home to get my scarves and my kit.”

Wilson’s journey from literary around the world involved seven separate flights:

“Out of Afghanistan to Dubai. Dubai to Paris, France. Paris to Salt Lake. I live in Idaho so then into Jackson Hole, Wy. which is the closest airport to where I live. Back to Jackson, back to Salt Lake, [into]Minneapolis then into Columbus.”
