There were plenty of familiar faces at today’s media sessions for the Columbus Crew and Portland Timbers on a cold, but sunny day at MAPFRE Stadium. Sessions were opened up to the media to talk to the players and coaches in their last training session before the MLS Cup on Sunday.
The biggest news from training today was Kei Kamara’s injury. He jumped and landed awkwardly, suffering a right leg injury. He was able to walk on his own power. Crew SC coach Gregg Berhalter was asked whether or not Kamara would be able to play. He said he wasn’t sure on the extent on his injury and that he wouldn’t put his players at risk, but is expecting that Kamara would play in Sunday’s match.
When asked about Kamara’s injury, Portland Timbers coach Caleb Porter simply said “We’re not a reactionary team.” Though, he went on to say that to react to these changes is part of the team’s game plan. He also addressed questions about the Ohio region and how they’ve produced some quality players like Wil Trapp, Darlington Nagbe, and Kofi Sarkodie.
Timbers players Jack Jewsbury, Liam Ridgewell, Rodney Wallace, and Jorge Villafaña, who briefly addressed receiving the Cascadia Corner Player of the Year award from Prost Amerika. Then the player proceeded to head off to begin their training session.
