With positive results Giovanni’s plan is working out for the Portland Timbers

Back-to-back wins are showing that Giovanni Savarese’s moves in his starting eleven are working out for the best for the club. So far, with two consecutive wins and despite the number of important players on the injured list. Still, Gio has managed to inject optimism and seeing positive results from his team as everyone is contributing to the cause.

On the San Jose game, he put on a 4-4-2 formation on the field with Andy Polo and Felipe Mora on the attack and the plan worked wonders as Yimmi Chara and Marvin Loria were on the mark and scored both game-winning goals.

Contrary to the LA Galaxy game, where the Timbers came as underdogs playing against the red-hot Galaxy, they turned the visitor’s backs towards the wall with a clean sheet and a three-goal game. Unfortunately, the number of players injured increased after that horrible tackle from LA’s defender Derrick Williams over Andy Polo.

In the case of Gio, it will not be difficult to sort out his upcoming lineups as some of his players are nearing recovery and what he has currently, somehow is working wonders and with results that speak aloud.

In two games, the Timbers have put a total of five goals and coming with clean sheets thanks to an amazing goalie in Logan Ketterer. If the lad is not kept on the team, it will be seen as a bad move.

However, for players that last season were on the bench most of the time, this is it for all of them and seen taking the opportunity not lightly as these are playing in every game like it was their last. Kudos to Marvin Loria, Renzo Zambrano, Bill Tuiloma, Pablo Bonilla, Zac McGraw, Blake Bodily, and Jeremy Ebobisse for coming strong and Eryk Williamson taking over the defensive role in the midfield for an injured Diego Chara. Youth is being served word in this Rose City side.

I like what I see in this Timbers squad as all its players are contributing and pity for Andy Polo missing the season as this would be his year. But for Gio, there is no impossible for him every game is seen as another major challenge. These Timbers are for real and with an upcoming Eastern rival on the horizon in the Union another team having a positive season, they will not be intimated but motivated for the win.
