This new MLS season is a new opportunity for Dynamo FC to return to the place where they were almost two decades ago. The team did many changes during the offseason to build a competitive team to return to the playoffs and battle for their third title.
Changes started with the coaching position as Ben Olsen was announced as the new head coach for a Dynamo team that finished in thirteenth position in the Western Conference in 2022. He has a big challenge in front of him. He has to do some sort of rebuilding (something the team has been doing every offseason in the last 3-4 years) that will improve the team to the point the club returns to its winning days.
The squad certainly had many additions this offseason. Dynamo transformed its backline as Brad Smith, Franco Escobar, Djevencio Van Der Kust, Tate Schmitt were signed along with Goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell.
The midfield had some improvements as Brazilian midfielder Artur was acquired from Columbus Crew, experienced Luis Caicedo was also signed by the Orange, and Ivan Franco and Amine Bassi were brought to the MLS from Paraguayan side Libertad and French club Metz respectively.
In addition, forward Ifunanyachi Achara was signed to bring some power to the offense.
The offseason was not only marked by new additions. The club also had an interesting preseason. The team traveled to Mexico to prepare for the MLS season and even play three friendly matches over there against Mexican squads. Also, they had some friendly matches against MLS sides in the USA. So, there are not more excuses. Houston Dynamo FC should be ready to go.
The expectation for this team is to at least qualify for the Playoffs. They must be a competitive side that should be strong at home and have some decent results on the road. Emerging talent should be put on the field and produce good results for the squad. And finally, Hector Herrera really needs to take the leadership role of this club and show why the club invested too much money on him. Again, there are no more excuses for Houston to be a winning club again.
