WICC Kicks Off With Olympique Lyonnais win over FC Barcelona

The Women’s International Championship Cup kicked off today at Providence Park with the first semifinal between the Catalan FC Barcelona facing the French Olympique Lyonnais. The French women decided the match in their favor with a late goal by Melvine Malard in the 85 minute. Malard’s goal broke a 2-2 tie with a brace by Mariana Caldentey for FC Barcelona (9′ and 63′). Amel Majri (20′)  and Amandine Henry (27) scored for Olympic.

A thrilling victory for the French side that moves them forward to the final with the winner of the Portland Thorns – Houston Dash, to be played tonight also at Providence Park.
