A Miller’s Tale – the Taming of the Shrews
There were many Rotherham fans at Wembley yesterday among the 26,218 spectators. They outnumbered the valiant from Shropshire and provided a colourful backdrop to the occasion.
Near to me was one big bald ballroom dancer who celebrated Rotherham’s second goal with an improvised ballroom dance on his own before a good humoured steward agreed to be his partner.
But even more eye catching was one mysterious masked Miller, who we have called Rey Mysterio Yorkshire.
Dressed in a cape worthy of the boldest Lucha Libre competitor, he urged on his team – at one key point in the action alone.
During extra time when many tired in the sunshine and heat, he kept a chant of “Paul Warne’s Red and White Army”, going until finally the fans around him joined in, and it spread. It was shortly after that when Richard Wood scored the winner.
The sheer commitment displayed by the fan and to his credit his floppy hatted comrade not only inspired other fans but inspired us to do a special feature on the mysterious Miller.
Perhaps the two representatives from local radio station Rother FM who watched along with us can help identify the masked hero of both Wembley and the Mexican wrestling ring and find out ….
…. who is Rey Mysterio Yorkshire?
