Vancouver Whitecaps 1-1 FC Cincinnati

VANCOUVER, BC–Considering the opponent, the Whitecaps got a credible draw against league-leading FC Cincinnati, 1-1, at BC Place on Saturday night. The Garys extend their unbeaten run in league play to thirteen in all competitions and continue to lead the Supporters’ Shield race by eight points. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps stay ahead of a log jam where five points separate sixth (Whitecaps) through 12th (Portland who play Sunday) in the Western Conference.

It was end-to-end action with both sides getting quality scoring opportunities, but neither finding a breakthrough throughout most of the match. Enter Lucho Acosta. Matt Miazga send a long ball that Acosta would chip on the volley catching Yohei Takaoka off his line and put inside the far post to give FC Cincy the lead in the 83rd minute.

While Miazga got a great assist on that goal, he would also concede the penalty five minutes later pushing down Sergio Cordova in the area. Ryan Gauld, also entering as a sub on the evening, would convert the spot kick and level the score in the 89th minute.

The Caps will get 11 days off before beginning a three-match road swing (where they are 0-4-3 at present) against Colorado Rapids on June 21st. Kickoff is at 6:30pm PT on Apple TV+.
