Ousted 8.0
Made four big saves to keep his team in the game so they had a chance to get the winner and leave Sandy, Utah with the critical three points. Made a huge save off a Saborio header off the line to keep the game in hand for the Whitecaps. His third 1-0 clean sheet in four road games this season so far. Has been the Whitecaps player of the season so far in the first 8 games.
Beitashour 7.0
Was very sound defensively this game, which is a huge improvement over the past two weeks for him. He was able to jump into the play at the right times down the wing and was very sound in his defensive position all game long. RSL really didn’t have any runs down his wing that led to chances or shots on Ousted.
Waston 8.0
Another game and another dominate performance by the Great Wall of Waston. Cleared everything that came into the box, especially late in the game to stopped the pressure from the 9 man RSL team.
Garcia wasn’t able to get anything going offensively lining up in front of the big man. The biggest thing was he was able to go the full 90 minutes with of picking up a yellow card.
Coming into the game he was averaging a yellow card every 51 minutes of game play. Only two more games of no yellow cards before he gets on rescinded for good behavior.
Kah 6.0
Had a very bad play early in the game to let Saborio get behind him wide open and have a free shot on net, thank god Saborio knocked it 10 yards off target and into the grandstands. Kah seems to have one of those every game so far this season. He is looking slow when players are running at him and always seems a step or two behind. With the Deigo Rodriguez suspension and injury, Kah was played way too many minutes compared to what Carl Robinson wanted him to play.
Was very rushed this game. Way too many crosses into the RSL defenders who where defending them. Sent way too many balls over the top trying to pick out Mattocks and Rivero instead of going through the midfield. He is a young player only in his 11th MLS game and still learning and will only get better with experience.
Koffie 6.5
Made some nice challenges during the game but turned the ball over way too often. Too many times he tried to make that one extra move when he had the ball in his feet and turned the ball over. When you partner with Laba you can make these mistakes and not be punished by the other team for them on the pitch but the coaching staff will notice them well watching the game over and point them out at practice.
Laba 8.0
Easily one of the top three defensive midfielders in the MLS. Won almost every challenge, tackle and 50/50 he was involved in. Sure doesn’t looked pretty if you read the box score but his play is something the this coaching staff and fans love to see. The question is quickly becoming how long will he be in a Whitecaps kit before he gets sold on to a bigger club for a substantial transfer fee.
Teibert 7.5
Was a strong game for the young Canadian. Picked up an early yellow card in the 6th minute but calmed down after that. Partnering with Koffie and Laba gave him a chance to jump in the play when he saw the chance too. Was evident on the Mattocks goal that he saw an opening on the wing and placed a great cross into the box. He put the ball perfectly where Mattocks could use his great jumping ability and put it in the back of the net.
Mezquida 6.5
Showed some flashes in the number 10 spot covering for the suspended Pedro Morales. Missed chances to get the ball to Rivero a few too many times in my opinion. This comes because of lack of minutes playing this season so far being that player in that role. Expect to see Pedro back in that spot next game 🙂
Mattocks 7.0
If he didn’t score that goal it might of been a game to forget for Mattocks. Missed a few chances early in the game and seemed like he was going to play like he did versus San Jose. Missed a few chances to play in Rivero by having his head down well making his runs. Made a great play on the goal by using his athleticism and getting his head to the ball and bulging the mesh.
Rivero 7.0
Two games in a row with no goals, but he is still doing everything else the coaching staff can ask him to do at a great level. He held the ball up well time and time again, made great runs off the shoulders of the defenders and continued hustling all game long. Sure he didn’t get the servicing he would of if Morales was playing but he still gave his all and tried to make an impact in the game.
Rosales 7.0
First game in five weeks for Rosales. Came in off the bench and calmed down the middle of the pitch for the Whitecaps. Brought in the calmness that Mezquida was failing to bring into the game.
Hurtado 6.5
Was brought in late in the game where he couldn’t make an impact.
