Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 Austin FC

VANCOUVER, BC–The Vancouver Whitecaps maintained their splendid home form and their playoff place in the Western Conference with a 2-1 win over Austin FC. The Verde are still sixth in the West, but just one point above the three teams below them, including Vancouver.

The Whitecaps needed just 29 seconds to go ahead as Brian White sent a cross to a criminally unmarked Pedro Vite for an easy finish. Austin has numerous chances in the first half to find an equalizer, but they returned serve eventually two minutes into the second half as Rodney Redes pounced on a rebound after Yohei Takaoka initially denied Owen Wolff.

Vancouver would respond in the 72nd minute with a goal from a sub of their own. That would be Sergio Cordova who would score three minutes after coming on. Cordova picked up a ball from Ryan Gauld and turned two defenders before finishing from 15 yards out for his first goal for the Whitecaps.
