Vancouver Whitecaps 0-0 Austin FC

VANCOUVER, BC–It was the 50th anniversary match for the Vancouver Whitecaps. Before a record MLS era crowd of 32,465, the Caps and Verde played to a goalless draw. Fafa Picault had a header just go over the bar in the 15th minute. Ryan Gauld thought he had one in the 19th minute, but VAR disallowed a goal as it spotted a handball on Picault. Picault would just miss again with a header in the 58th minute.

The Whitecaps outshot Austin, 23-4, and had seven shots on target to Austin’s one. Vancouver’s expected goals were 1.6 to Austin’s 0.1, but on this night, the Whitecaps just were not able to find the back of the net.

The Whitecaps head to the Calgary Foothills on Wednesday to take on Calvary FC in a Canadian Championship tie (6pm PT, ONE Soccer) before going to LAFC in league play on Saturday night at BMO Stadium (7:30pm PT, Apple TV).
