The Portland Timbers are getting ready to make an impact in this 2023 with another addition to their roster in winger Antony Alves Santos from Portuguese side FC Arouca. The man from Brazil will be under contract through the 2026 campaign and with a club option in 2027 and will occupy an international and a U-22 Initiative Slot pending a physical and a receipt of is International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 visa.
“We are delighted to announce the addition of a talented young attacking player in Antony. We feel his attributes will give our team a different component going forward,” said Ned Grabavoy, Timbers General Manager. “Antony is a player with potential and room for growth, and we are optimistic that he can make a positive impact with our club.”
The Brazilian native began his professional career in 2021 with Brazilian side Joinville Esporte Clube before being loaned out to top-tier side Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. Antony made his debut at the age of 18 against Palmeiras in a 2-2 draw on March 3, 2021. Antony logged three appearances in all competitions with Corinthians before being loaned out to FC Arouca in 2021
As a team, we always want to grow. The addition of Antony will give us the possibility to have a player with different attributes,” said Timber’s head coach Giovanni Savarese. “We believe that young players can grow within our team as well as make us stronger. He will make our attacking squad even more competitive with his speed, strength and verticality on the field.”
Looks like the Portland Timbers are looking to make a run to the playoffs and soon as Antony adapts to Gio’s game and scheme, I do believe he will make an all-around impact in the field and lead the team not only to the postseason.
In the end, they can lead the team all the way into the league finals soon he and his countryman Evander can become the one two punch the Timbers are lacking and who knows they can really turn things around for the better and become more competitive.
Bem-vindo a Rose City Antony!
