Walker Zimmerman heading to Nashville SC

Los Angeles Football Club announced today that the Club has acquired $600,000 in 2020 General Allocation Money, $350,000 in 2021 GAM, and a 2020 international roster spot from Nashville SC in exchange for defender Walker Zimmerman. LAFC will receive an additional $150,000 in GAM in both 2020 and 2021, if Zimmerman meets certain performance-based metrics.

Zimmerman joined LAFC ahead of the Club’s inaugural campaign in 2018 and started all 51 regular season games he appeared in. The center-back scored five goals and had two assists for the Black & Gold. In 2019, Zimmerman earned MLS Best XI and MLS All-Star selections for the first time in his career.

The move is a shock considering that Zimmerman has been a key figure for LAFC since arriving. He has also broken through at international level, making 12 appearances while scoring two goals for the USMNT.

“In his two seasons in Los Angeles, Walker was a consummate professional and a great leader on and off the field.” said General Manager John Thorrington.

With Eddie Segura, Danilo Silva and Tristan Blackmon as the available center-backs LAFC will have to move on as the CONCACAF Champions League looms. LAFC will play Leon in the away leg of the round of 16 on Feb. 18 with the return leg taking place on Feb. 27.
