Colorado Rapids assistant coach John Spencer had a victorious return to Cascadia on Saturday as his side beat Seattle 1-0.
After the match, he talked to Prost Amerika’s John Zielonka about the Rapids’ early season success. As a fan though, Spencer has had a less good year and spoke on Chelsea’s terrible 2016 season and Scotland’s failure to qualify for EURO 2016, with an admirable steely grin.
Spencer tried to play down the emotion that will surround his return to Portland, likening it to returning to Houston Dynamo to coach against Dominic Kinnear.
He has not spoken to Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson or GM Gavin Wilkinson since his return to MLS:
“There’s no reason for me to be in touch with anybody. It ended the way it ended. Obviously I wasn’t happy with a few things that were said afterwards but you move on. You live and learn.”
