Vancouver Whitecaps 1-San Jose Earthquakes 3
Remember when things were all doom and gloom in San Jose? My doesn’t that feel like a long time ago. The Earthquakes continued their winning ways last night at BC Place blowing past the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches.
Things initially look too good for the visitors after Doneil Henry gave the Whitecaps the lead with his goal in the seventh minute of the match. But while the Earthquakes of the past may have faltered after an early setback this San Jose side maintained their composure. Earthquakes forward Vako was at the center of the comeback scoring the equalizer in the 16th minute of the match. He was also indirectly involved with the second goal, hammering a shot on target that was saved but whose rebound was scooped up by Chris Wondolowski.
In the second half the Earthquakes put the match away with Vako finding Magnus Eriksson for the third goal of the match. With the win San Jose (10-7-4, 34 points) moves into fifth place in the Western Conference Standings. They will look to make it a ten games unbeaten next Saturday when they host the Colorado Rapids.
As for Vancouver Saturday’s loss continues their slide down the standings with their fourth consecutive defeat pushing them all the way to the bottom in the Western Conference. They will hope to turn their fortunes around in the Canadian Championship on Wednesday when they host Cavalry FC.
