Diego G Diaz / Providence Park, Portland, Oregon
Caleb Porter made an official injury update at today’s weekly press conference at Providence Park. Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri and goal keeper Jake Gleeson will only be missing the visit at Dallas FC, and they will be presumably ready for San José’s Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium on May 6th.
Diego Valeri was carried on a stretcher out of the pitch during the 80th minute against Vancouver Whitecap on April 22nd, the Argentine midfielder is a key element in the squad and his health was a cause of alarm for both fans and club. Valeri had a minor grade 1 hip strain, and will be missing the visit to the Toyota stadium. Jake Gleeson will be missing the game as well, he has been ruled out due to a minor hip flexor strain, and will be available for selection presumably for the San José visit.
Injuries seem to still be the Portland Timbers worst enemy, causing them to constantly tweak their squad, however Caleb Porter feels very strong about the depth of his team, and praised the ability of the group to come together and keep getting good results.
Other subjects the Caleb shared his thoughts on the stadium expansion, Nagbe and gave us a preview of this Saturday exiting match up against Dallas FC.
