A brief summary of the Cup.

The US Women’s National team secured the SheBelives Cup Championship on Wednesday night after beating Japan, 3-1, in the last match of this competition in Frisco, Texas. In this edition, England and Spain completed the four teams that participated in this yearly invitational tournament.

The Americans started the tournament with a win against England 2-0 in Orlando, Florida. Then, they traveled to New Jersey where they beat Spain, 1-0, before traveling to North Texas to face Japan.

With 9 points and with only one goal allowed, the Americans dominated this year’s edition. The team that surprised the most was Spain, which ended the tournament with 6 points after wins against Japan (3-1) and England (1-0). England disappointed this year because they came as the previous year’s title holders. They lost two games and were only able to beat Japan (1-0) to finish the tournament in third place. Japan, on the other hand, was a big disappointment as well as they lost all three matches to finish in last place.

This tournament is a growing every year and offers a great quality of soccer since some of the best teams in the world compete every year against the World Champs (USWNT). This was the fifth edition with the USA winning it the most times with three titles. France in 2017 and England in 2019 complete the list of winning teams.

This edition of the cup came with some controversy as many people expected to be cancel or postponed due to health concerns about the developing of the coronavirus. Fortunately, this did not occur. However, there was not a surprise that a day after the tournament ended, all soccer activities in the country were postponed.
