Portland Timbers 0, Seattle Sounders 1

Giovanni Savarese was one disappointed and frustrated man after his post-match press conference. Following his squad loss against many can state a lucky Seattle squad. By seeing his squad dominance in the course of the match and generating all sorts of opportunities. With just a simple, play that the Sounders attackers putting the pressure on the Timbers defense.

The Portland Timbers defender Julio Cascante in the 73’ minute scored an own goal by. This single play erased a brilliant and revived defensive game that the whole Portland initial eleven displayed all evening long.

That for sure put an end to Seattle’s sloppy and physical game exhibited all evening long. Still give the Rave Greens an A for displaying an effective defensive game that did not allow the locals any opportunities to open up the score. By becoming a challenge but at the same time an eye sore to Gio’s offensive attack that is lacking many options to create.

Still not everything was negative, after seeing the return to the starting lineup of Liam Ridgewell. Suddenly we saw this man leadership put in practice and putting a stop to any of Seattle’s drive. By just allowing a mere six shoots at goal with just three direct, two off target and one blocked. The Portland defensive backfield was showing off an impeccable game of not allowing the Emerald City Boys any liberties.

However something to worry about is the lack of finishing touch the Rose City squad is lacking lately, with twenty two attempts, of those  three direct, eight off target and eleven blocked, that tells you the need to improve in this area.

Despite the result for Giovanni Savarese he is a bit happy for the game his squad put on the field. In his mind, the need to be better is what Gio is asking his troops in the remainder of the campaign.

For now one thing that he is need of is to rotate a few players. With Cristhian Paredes, Andres Flores and Marco Farfan once starters now on the bench, the need to promote a couple of T2 players that can start a spark.

Highlight

The return of Liam Ridgewell and his leadership gave a total and fight to the Portland defensive backfield. However, the need to perfect the game that can withstand any pressure is necessary.

Still once, again Jeff Attinella kept a perfect game defensively until that unfortunate play. Portland needs to communicate from goalie to defenders is a total necessity. The other plus was the return of Jorge Villafaña and Liam Ridgewell who will hopefully uplift this club defenses one again.
