It was all about youth in as the United States Mens Team dominated Bolivia 3-0. The average age of the United States team was just over 22 years. Probably the best-known player and veteran of international play — Christian Pulisic — is 19. With all that youth came indisputable speed, but also with its fair share of errors to be palmed off on inexperience or jitters. Still, the offensive minded team well outshot Bolivia by a large margin (overall 22-4 and on goal 6-0).
The first half was punctuated by Walter Zimmerman’s leaping header goal off of an assist from Joe Corona in the 37th minute. The two goals in the second half came from Josh Sargent in the 52nd minute and Tim Weah in the 59th minute off of an assist from Antonee Robinson. It was Sargent’s first goal in his international soccer debut at the ripe age of 18. It is hard to avoid comparing the sequence of the goals with the age of the shooters. Weah also is 18, having been born just two days after Sargent.
