In their first matchup since the 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs, the New England Revolution would play host to Orlando City SC. Coming off of a dramatic win that secured their spot in the 2021 playoffs, the Revs would look for another win to clinch their spot in the top four and secure home field advantage for the first round of knockout games.
The Revolution would waste no time getting started in this one as Adam Buksa was able to find the back of the net in the 9th minute. A build up play would find Gustavo Bou in the attacking third. Bou raced down the sideline before sending a picture perfect cross to Buksa who made no mistake, scoring his 12th goal of the 2021 campaign.
Orlando would fight back minutes later with Daryl Dike turning Revs defenseman Henry Kessler before shooting one past Matt Turner to tie the game in the 18th minute.
The Revolution would strike again in the first half with a goal in the 34th minute. An individual effort by Tajon Buchanan would see a driven cross deflected in for an own goal. A series of footwork skills led up to the cross that was ultimately deflected in by Orlando defender Rodrigo Schlegel.
The second half would feature yet another dominant performance by the Revolution. While the Revs were unable to score again, they created multiple chances, including a goal that was called back for offsides.
The main event of the second half came when Revs goalkeeper Matt Turner was forced to make a game saving penalty save on Nani to keep the game 2-1. This was the third meeting between the two from twelve yards with Turner staying a perfect 3-0 against Nani from the spot.
The Revolution remain in first place of both the Eastern Conference as well as Supporters Shield standings with 62 points. This also sets a club record for points in a season by the Revs.
