FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution (1-1-6, 4 pts.) were defeated 1-0 versus Toronto FC (4-1-4, 13 pts.) in a match on Saturday.
The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at BMO Field in the Toronto, Canada to a crowd of 20,744.

The team started their lineup in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Henrich Ravas starting in net with a backline of (left back) Ryan Spaulding, (center backs) Andrew Farrell, and Henry Kessler, along with (right back) Nick Lima. The midfield spots were manned by Matt Polster (left defensive midfield) and Noel Buck (right defensive midfield), with Carles Gil appeared ahead of them (central attacking midfield). The forward roles were manned by Esmir Bajraktarević (left wing), Nacho Gil (right wing), and Giacomo Vrioni as the lone striker.
Forward/Midfielder Tomás Chancalay started the match on the bench due to recent form.
Defender Dave Romney gets a much-needed rest after starting 11/12 of New England’s matches this season.

The match began with New England starting from the center circle. Forward Giacomo Vrioni played the ball backward for New England to start to build out of the back. The ball was quickly launched forward and recovered by Toronto FC.
New England’s first moment of the match came from a Carles Gil freekick in the 6th minute that was eventually called dead due to a foul in the delivery.
Entering the 8th minute, Toronto FC defender #28 Raoul Petretta was issued a yellow card for fouling Nacho Gil and evidently kicking the ball away.
Toronto’s first opportunity came in the 14th minute when forward #99 Prince Owusu was sent on a through-ball. Goalkeeper Henrich Ravas initially came out and he rounded the keeper. His chip attempt was then caught by a retreating Ravas and saved.
New England’s next opportunity came in the 18th minute when Ryan Spaulding’s long-distance effort was deflected out for a corner kick.
New England had yet another clear chance in the 21st minute when Henry Kessler’s header was met with a diving stop by #1 Sean Johnson.
Less than 1 minute later, Carles Gil had an effort that was comfortably saved by #1 Sean Johnson.

Toronto had a spectacular chance entering the 23rd minute when Henrich Ravas pass was intercepted by #10 Federico Bernadeschi. He then squared the ball to #21 Jonathan Osorio. His effort was blocked by Noel Buck and cleared.
Toronto had yet another chance in the 25th minute when #10 Federico Bernadeschi’s long distance effort was saved by Henrich Ravas.
In the 28th minute, Revolution midfielder Nacho Gil was issued a yellow card for taking down #16 Tyrese Spicer.
Entering the 30th minute, Toronto’s free kick opportunity went just wide of the right post.

Vrioni had a clear chance for New England that was saved by #1 Sean Johnson for a corner kick. The ensuing corner kick then found Nacho Gil for an unbelievable opportunity that was cleared for another corner kick. The following delivery was cleared.
Just 2 minutes later, Carles Gil had a long-distance effort that was met with a diving stop by #1 Sean Johnson.
In the 41st minute, Revolution midfielder Matt Polster and Toronto FC midfielder #21 Jonathan Osorio were both issued yellow cards due to disagreements on the center officials calls.
Entering the 43rd minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his first change of the match by substituting Noel Buck and replacing him with Mark-Anthony Kaye. It appears Buck went down with a non-contact muscle injury.

The second half began with Toronto FC starting from the center circle. Toronto elected to launch the ball into New England’s defensive third as the ball was collected by Ravas to start the half.
Toronto had the first chance of the second half when midfielder #10 Federico Bernadeschi’s long-distance effort went over the bar.
Giacomo Vrioni had the chance of the match in the 50th minute when he was met with a 1v1 with Toronto goalkeeper #1 Sean Johnson. He made a spectacular diving save that led the ball to go out for a corner kick.
New England’s next clear chance came in the 56th minute when Giacomo Vrioni squared the ball for Mark-Anthony Kaye. The shot was blocked by #17 Sigurd Posted and cleared.
In the 60th minute, Toronto FC head coach John Herdman made his first two changes of the match by substituting midfielder #28 Raoul Petretta and defender #19 Kobe Franklin and replacing them with defender #6 Aimé Rabika and midfielder #7 Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty.
Entering the 64th minute, Toronto FC midfielder #8 Matty Longstaff was issued a yellow card for elbowing Ryan Spaulding. Ryan stepped off of the field to receive treatment as he was bleeding from the nose and mouth.

Following a delivery into the box by midfielder #8 Matty Longstaff, the ball found midfielder #7 Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty after a poor clearance by Ryan Spaulding. The ball then found forward #99 Prince Owes for his fourth goal of the season.
In the 70th minute, Toronto FC head coach John Herdman made his third change of the match by replacing midfielder #8 Matty Longstaff with midfielder #47 Kosi Thompson.
Moments later, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his second and third changes of the match by substituting Giacomo Vrioni and Nacho Gil and replaced them with Bobby Wood and Tomás Chancalay.
Entering the 73rd minute, Toronto FC were given a penalty kick following a hand-ball by Andrew Farrell. After video-review, the call on the field stood as a penalty kick.

Toronto FC midfielder #10 Federico Bernadeschi stepped up to take the penalty and the attempt was saved by Ravas in the bottom right corner to keep it level at 1-0.
New England’s next major chance came in the 77th minute when Tomás Chancalay’s effort was saved by #1 Sean Johnson.
In the 84th minute, both sides made changes. For the Revolution, midfielder Emmanuel Boateng replaced defender Ryan Spaulding. For Toronto, forward #99 Prince Owusu was replaced by forward #29 DeAndre Kerr.
New England had a chance entering the 90th minute to level the match but Andrew Farrell’s effort went sky high over the bar.
