Last night was a special night for Toronto FC players and fans alike.

First of all, the team’s 1-0 victory over the L.A Galaxy ended a winless run of ten matches versus the Galaxy, second, Toronto’s goal was the first it had scored in MLS play in 334 minutes and lastly, the hard fought result earned Toronto their first win in four games. A relief for the team to end those tough streaks.

The eventual goalscorer, new dad and TFC defender Drew Moor, notably cradled his newborn song Joseph in his arms during the singing of the Canadian national anthem. Moor humorously would comment after the match: “He’s coming on the field for every game now,” and it’s easy to see why he and TFC would like the lucky charm every game.

The game looked set for a drab 0-0 draw until Moor’s 76th-minute header flew past L.A Galaxy goalkeeper, Brian Rowe.

After the match Moor commented on the build-up of the play, giving particular credit and thanks to teammate Eriq Zavaleta: “I asked (Zavaleta) after the game, ‘Did you know I was there?’ He said yes,” Moor said. “I just had a feeling he knew I was there, and it was a perfect header from him, and I thought he and I were on the same page all night, even in the attacking half there. It was a fun goal for sure.”

The L.A Galaxy were a little shorthanded in the defeat, playing the match without star striker Robbie Keane, who is off at the European Championships with Ireland and midfielder Steven Gerrard did not travel with the team due to a hamstring injury.

TFC for their part, were missing U.S Internationals, Michael Bradley, who is at Copa America Centenario and Jozy Altidore who remains out injured.

The result is a great one for Toronto FC to bank, as now the team begins a gruelling run of five matches in just 15 days. They start by hosting the Vancouver Whitecaps on Tuesday in the first leg of the Canadian Championship final.
