The Portland Timbers run of perfection continued at 13 on Saturday with their 2-2 draw against the Montreal Impact. Call it lucky or just these Timbers are one hardened squad to go down not so easily. After a hectic week in Tinsel Town, the PTFC was back in town and against a very dangerous Montreal Impact squad.

We can say a clash of the titans by the way these two elevens played with on Saturdy. This was a perfect night for football with a nice Portland summer evening in the background.

Especially for the Montreal the lads all-around effort gave Portland a run for their money in the first half. For the visiting Le Gars all around domination in this half of the match. It paid off enormously in the 23rd minute when a well-placed Saphir Taïder via assistance from Alejandro Silva.  The visitors had all the right moves and dominance of the first half under control.

Do not call the Portland Timbers quitters and after a play that started with Blanco leading to Alvas Powell in the center and Montréal goalkeeper Evan Bush blunder made it easy for Samuel Armenteros  to push the ball for the equalizer in the 39’ minute.  Now with the game tied at one goal apiece, the Impact went on the attack one more time.

In this match, the Rose City squad was not playing as organized game in its defense. After tying the game at one goal apiece, once again the visitors took control of the match. Not even two minutes passed by when Ignacio Piatti passing to Matteo Mancuso put the Imapct ahead in the 41st minute.

Despite the efforts by the Portland backfield, still the Impact had a strong presence and the first half finally over. The second half saw the Portland backfield bracing for another wave of attacks from a pushing Impact attack.

However, the tables turn in favor of the Timbers. When the Montreal players started showing off signs of fatigue and not putting on with the locals increase domination in this half. By putting a constant pressure on the Impact, defense by the Rose City attackers.

But playing from behind is something that the Timbers and their supporters are accustomed to at this point. Needing a goal the difference saw how persistent Diego Valeri can be, tying the score in the 65th minute. Call this Portland Timbers side the comeback kids!

Highlight of the Match

The persistence and perseverance that this Portland Timbers squad is displaying in every game is delivering positive results and thi match is a perfect example of that.

This time coming from behind and putting on the pressure in the second half after a not so positive first half. Still these Rose City Boys do not give up that easily and the proof is in the comeback from behind to earn a point. This week Diego Valeri and Samuel Armenteros are the notable players that delivered in the clutch.
