It rained. It poured. The Portland Timbers scored.
After 31 goals over the course of 31 games, the Timbers have scored nine in their last two regular season matches, logging a 5-2 win over the LA Galaxy on the road and a 4-1 win over the Colorado Rapids at home to close out the 2015 regular season.
A curling Darlington Nagbe free kick from 25 yards out put the Timbers on the scoreboard early, but was answered just moments later when Dominique Badji bounced a ball off of Timbers defender Liam Ridgewell and past goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey.
Nagbe completed his brace in the 33rd, assisted by Lucas Melano and the Timbers didn’t look back.
With a third place finish secured, the Timbers will face Sporting Kansas City Thursday at Providence Park. Kick is at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast locally on Root Sports and nationally on Unimas. Tickets go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Monday.
