Tijuana Xolos and Pachuca to play for first Women’s trophy in Mexico

Wednesday May 3rd became  a historic day in Mexican soccer history. For the first time the Mexican Soccer Federation was hosting an official Women’s soccer competition. The FMF and Liga MX have plans to start a professional Women’s soccer league with all Liga MX teams fielding a squad.

For now 12 of the Liga MX teams got their squads ready to compete in the first ever Women’s Copa MX competition. A tournament held over four days at the FMF headquarters in Toluca. The 12 teams were split into three groups of four, they each played a total of three games against their group opponents. At the end of the three rounds the top two seeded teams advance to the final.

Tijuana Xolos and Pachuca will be the two squads advancing out of the group stage and into the championship match on Saturday.

Pachuca have been terrorizing the their opponents in each game winning 6-1 against Chivas in the first round, 6-2 against Morelia in round two and 6-1 against Toluca today in round three. Tijuana Xolos are the only other club with a perfect three wins in three matches record. Xolos defeated Cruz Azul, Necaxa and Santos with a 2-0 scoreline in every game.

The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 am (Pacific) / 1:00 pm (Eastern) and the game will be streamed live on the league’s website.
