Toronto FC 2 – 2 D.C. United
By Luis Martinez
Orlando, FL – Upon the return of activities for Toronto FC, after a 24-hour postponement of the match, finally they got back to the field and almost got the three points. This match had numerous obstacles before it even began with not only this 24-hour delay but an additional 2-day delay due to late arrivals in Orlando.
Ayo Akinola was the key to manage the game and tried to save the result, but DC United was a great rival not easy to win even with one less man on the pitch.
Akinola score in the 12th minute mark, opening a great ball possession for the Reds and scored again in the 44th sending the game to the break with the numbers in their favor.
Júnior Moreno got a red card in first half stoppage time when his partners most needed him. The Canadian team was able to stretch the game and nearly got the victory, but Federico Higuaín scored six minutes from the 90 and Frederic Brillant scored in the extra time to rescue a point for DC.
It was great to see Quentin Westberg guarding the arc for TFC since his fate for starting in this match was unknown with TFC’s recent signing of Kevin Silva.
Next engagement for TFC is against their super rival Montreal Impact on Thursday, a great opportunity for the Reds to earn goals, points and advance to the next step.
