The Portland Timbers to face off the Seattle Sounders in the US Open Cup

The announcement came for the US Open Cup pairings in its 106th edition, and to play their arch-rivals the Seattle Sounders. This marks the fifth consecutive time the Rose City squad will face off a MLS opponent.

With the fourth round the Portland Timbers will have to travel up north to Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, WA to play the Seattle Sounders on a match scheduled on Thursday June 12 at 7:30 PM PST.

In this fourth round marks the tournament entrance for all Major League Soccer (Division I) teams. As all of America’s top tier association squads are to join the 11 winners from the competition third round already staged on May 28 and May 29.

The US Open Cup is a contest that its been the longest run since 1914, that gives an opportunity to amateur squads from all the USSF to face professional squads in a meaningful competition. With the one game knockout basis open to both professional and amateur squads.

A competition that bears the name of one of America’s soccer pioneers in Lamar Hunt.

To conclude if one rivalry captures the most attention and headlines in US Soccer is the Cascadia Derby whenever the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders, seen as one of MLS top rated rivalries.

Being the Emerald City side to hoist the trophy four times along with Chicago Fire with the most titles by an MLS club. The record stands among Bethlehem Steel and Maccabi Los Angeles with five titles each but not active any longer.
