The Portland Timbers and Minnesota United, will stage the semifinals, of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup to be played at Allianz Field on Wednesday, August 7 at 5:00 PM PST.
With the Rose City squad winning on Wednesday night at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, with a 1-0 victory over the locals LAFC, thanks to Jeremy Ebobisse goal in the 84′ minute.
This win marks the second time, the Portland Timbers advance to their second semifinals in their history (2013, 2019).
So far, the Timbers record in the U.S. Open Cup is of 10-3-1 with seven road wins, this includes shutouts in five of their last six games. The Timbers have accumulated 10 wins over MLS teams in Open Cup play, tied for the most of any team in that time-span.
For Minnesota United, this is their first time in tier history to advance to their first ever U.S. Open Cup semifinals by eliminanting USL side New Mexico United 6-1 at Allianz Field on Wednesday night.
The Loons scores came from Angelo Rodriguez scoring a treble and with goals from Darwin Quintero Jan Gregus for the win.
The Portland Timbers and Minnesota United will play a league game before the USOC match on August 4, at Allianz Stadium and later another league match at Providence Park on September 22.
Also the result of Thursday’s draw by U.S. Soccer, determined that Orlando City will host Atlanta United in the East semifinals and Portland Timbers and Minnesota United on the West.
In the final of the USOC, Atlanta United has the first priority to host the final on August 27 or 28 if they advance. The second priority went to Minnesota, followed by Orlando and Portland, which will not be eligible to host the final.
