Ahead in what looks like a very contested 2023 campaign, the Portland Timbers have signed a free agent and veteran defender Eric Miller to a one-year deal ahead of a possible club option for the 2024 campaign.
Miller, 30, joins the Timbers ahead of the 2023 campaign after spending the past three seasons with Nashville SC. In the 2022 campaign, Miller played 24 matches, starting 14 for Nashville. The man in his nine-year career, has made a whooping 165 MLS appearance’s (136 starts), including the postseason.
Originally drafted by the Montréal Impact in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, Miller comes with a wealth of experience, having stints with the Impact (2014-15), Colorado Rapids (2016-17), Minnesota United (2018-19), New York City FC (2019) and Nashville (2020-22).
The man is native of Woodbury, Minnesota, Miller began his professional career in the USL second division semi pro league with the Portland Timbers U23’s in 2012 while attending and playing for Creighton University.
Despite the Timbers addressing this issue about their defensive game and boosting it up with the arrival of this veteran defender, the team’s needs are not being fully addressed such as bringing of an experienced center back along with a striker. However, if the Timbers tackle this issue, I foresee the team being competitive in this 2023 season.
