FIRE: Chicago Fire FC hope they can find the back of the net and advance in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on Tuesday night against Union Omaha of USL League One (7pm, ESPN+). The Fire have won the competition four times–most recently in 2006.
Union Omaha have opened their USL League One season with a pair of draws against Forward Madison FC and South Georgia Tormenta. Union got the Third Round with a 2-1 win over the Des Moines Menace of USL League Two.
RED STARS: Amanda Kowalski scored her first goal as a Red Star, but Emina Ekic equalized off a free kick in the 75th minute to make it a 1-1 draw. The Red Stars now need a win at Kansas City Current on Sunday (4pm, Paramount+) to advance to the semifinals of the NWSL Challenge Cup. Of more pressing concern is the health of Mallory Pugh who left the match midway through the second half after a collision and suffered a concussion. Her availability for Sunday is unknown at this point.
FIRE II: Chicago Fire II finally got on the board on Sunday at Toronto FC II, but they still fell, 4-2, in MLS NEXT Pro competition. Alex Monis and Luka Bezerra scored the goals for Fire II, but three unanswered goals by TFC II condemned Fire II to the bottom of the East in MLS NEXT Pro at 0-3-1. The next match for Fire II will be at SeatGeek Stadium on Sunday against Philadelphia Union II.
