CHICAGO, IL–With the season-ending injury to Tierna Davidon, the Chicago Red Stars went and signed a defender on Monday. That defender was Butler University’s Amanda Kowalski who was a non-roster invitee in the preseason. Kowalski was signed to a three-year deal with an option for a fourth.

Kowalski played in 72 matches for the Bulldogs, starting in 46, scored four goals and assisted on 11 others. The defender also was named Big East Defensive Player of the Week and Big East Weekly Honor Roll multiple times throughout her collegiate career.

On Tuesday, the Red Stars added an additional striker in Australian international Chelsie Dawber to a two-year deal with an option for a third. Dawber, 22, began her pro career at Adelaide United of the A-League Women scoring ten goals and three assists in 15 matches.

“Chelsie is an impressive young player. She has proven she can score goals at a high level, play multiple positions and still be effective,” said Red Stars Head Coach Chris Petrucelli. “She adds versatility and athleticism to an already dangerous attacking group.”

“I am really excited to be joining the Red Stars. Growing up it has always been my dream to play overseas. I am very grateful to Chris and the team for providing me this amazing opportunity!” said Chelsie. “I can’t wait to start training with the girls, playing in front of all the fans, and push towards winning a championship this season!”

Dawber will arrive in Chicago pending her visa application.
