FIRE PRESEASON:  Chicago Fire FC are already in Orlando for its preseason at Omni Resort at ChampionsGate. Twelve days later, they will have their first preseason friendly in Orlando against Minnesota United. On February 3rd, the Fire will return briefly to Chicago before heading out to Austin three days later for a trio of preseason matches at St. David’s Performance Center against Toronto FC (Feb. 12), FC Dallas (Feb. 16), and Austin FC (Feb. 19). All three matches in Austin are closed to the public.

The Fire’s 25th season gets underway on Saturday, February 26th against Inter Miami in Fort Lauderdale.

WHITFIELD NAMED TO VP POST:  Former Fire player Evan Whitfield has been named Vice President of Equity, Alumni Relations, and Engagement. A newly created position within the club, Whitfield will be responsible for leading the club’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy, alumni relations, as well as representing the Club as an ambassador.

He will also work directly with the community development department, focusing on the launch of an alumni program, building the Club’s corporate and government relations, oversee the Club’s pledge and lead Club-wide efforts to support DEI programs and initiatives.

“I am elated to be part of the Fire organization again,” said Whitfield. “The Fire, at this time, is an ideal opportunity for me as it gives me an opportunity to use my professional experience and passion for the game for the betterment of the Club. The Fire represent this amazing city and it is essential that we reflect the great diversity of our city and maintain an inclusive environment for all. The impact that soccer can have here can be powerful, and together, we will strive to continually make a lasting impact here in Chicago.”

Whitfield played six seasons with the Fire making 103 total appearances and was part of the 2000 and 2003 US Open Cup winning squads. He is the third Fire alum to return to the club in some capacity. Last month, CJ Brown joined Frank Klopas as assistants on new head coach Ezra Hendrickson’s staff.
