The Deep Dish: Moving Forward

FIRE:  As Chicago Fire FC officially launches the new logo, we mentioned that it should also trigger a relaunch of on-pitch product. We remain very much skeptical that Georg Heitz is the right man to lead what will be another rebuild.

It will be difficult to watch the final five Fire matches this season (as their chances of making the playoffs are unlikely). What should be done is who is worthy to be kept for 2022 and who can come in on the pitch, in the technical area, and even the front office who can bring a winning mentality back to this club and build around that.

For far too long, the Fire have been a team that has been devoid of identity and the last two years saw a bunch of players put together without a core to build around and no one among the bunch as of yet who is a proven winner (though Gabriel Slonina can be one in the future).

Barry Alvarez said that the hardest thing he had to do as he took over the heading coaching job for Wisconsin football was to change the attitude to a winning one. In the late 80s, Wisconsin were every bit as bad as Northwestern was back then.

The Fire need to bring in people who can help change the attitude at the club to give it an identity and build into a winner long term. That’s really the only way the Fire will get their 25,000 a game at Soldier Field and be relevant again.

RED STARS:  The Red Stars’ match against Orlando was called off due to the numerous controversies surrounding the league that require a deep inflection. The Red Stars published a letter written by Chief Business Officer Vicki Lynch on Friday which in part reads the following:

“We are working  in conjunction with our players to proactively implement additional layers of protection to ensure a safe environment for our players and front office, beyond the league policies currently in place.  Please be confident that we will continue to do everything possible to ensure a safe and positive environment for our players and front office staff.

”The abuse of power must stop.  Looking the other way must stop.  Not listening to the victims must stop.  We, the entire Red Stars organization, are committed to making that happen.”

The Red Stars are due to play at OL Reign on Sunday at

HOUSE AC:  Chicago House AC snapped a six-match winless streak with a 2-0 win over 1904 FC of San Diego. Wojciech Wojcik scored his third goal of the season, and Musa Morris scored his first goal for House AC as they gained points in back-to-back matches for the first time this season.

House AC play the same 1904 FC club at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday at 7:30pm CT.
