FIRE PRESEASON SCHEDULE:  On Monday, Chicago Fire FC announced their preseason schedule. It will start on Monday in Bridgeview before traveling to Cancun, Mexico on January 20th for 12 days ending with a friendly on January 31st against Cancun FC.

After returning to Chicago for few days, they travel to Tucson, AZ, on February 6th to take part in the FC Tucson Desert Showcase where they will play Sacramento Republic (Feb. 8), El Paso Locomotive (Feb. 11), New Mexico United (Feb. 15), and Real Salt Lake (Feb. 18) at the Kino Sports Complex. The Fire will return to Chicago later on February 18th. The Fire’s regular season commences on Saturday, March 4th at Soldier Field against New York City FC (7:30pm, Apple TV).

FIRE SIGN GOALKEEPER:  Also on Monday, the Fire signed goalkeeper Jeff Gal via a free transfer from Swedish Allsvenskan side Degerfors IF. Gal, 29, is under contract with the Club through the 2023 season with Club options for 2024 and 2025. Gal is a native of Chicago who was part of the Chicago Sockers and played his college soccer at Creighton. He has spent his entire professional career in Sweden since turning pro in 2017.

MASAR JOINS RED STARS TECHNICAL STAFF:  Another former Red Star player is now joining the club in a different role. This time, Ella Masar is joining the Red Stars as an assistant coach joining Chris Petrucelli’s technical staff.

“You know, they say, there is nothing quite like coming ‘home’ and after leaving Chicago in 2012, just over 10 years later, I can’t wait to do just that,” said Masar. “I am honored, excited and ready to help CRS bring home its first ever NWSL championship and I wouldn’t be coming here if I didn’t think that was possible. We have all we need, and the pride, the pride that all Chicagoans have, placed deep in their heart is something I can’t wait to experience once again in our stadium.”
Masar is an Illinois native and former Red Star player who played in 20 games for the Red Stars in 2013 and scored three goals with two assists that year. Masar’s playing career also includes stints with the Houston Dash, Paris Saint-Germain (France), and VfL Wolfsburg (Germany). Masar spent the 2022 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season with the Kansas City Current as an assistant coach. Holding a UEFA A and B coaching license, Masar’s coaching experience also includes time with Real Madrid’s women’s team.
Additionally, the Red Stars signed forward Jenna Bike through the waiver wire. Bike played with Gotham FC the previous season and played her college soccer at Boston College.
