The Deep Dish: Almost There

0

PREFACE:  The regular season is nearing an end for both Chicago Fire FC and the Chicago Red Stars. The Fire will miss the playoffs for the tenth time in 12 seasons while the Red Stars are on the cusp of a sixth consecutive playoff appearance. Meanwhile, Chicago House AC have seven to play and are looking to climb up the table in the NISA Fall Season. Now the details:

FIRE:  Despite their 2-2 draw against New England, last Saturday, it officially eliminated the Fire from playoff contention, though that was realistic since May. We will have more to say about the Fire at season’s end, but on Wednesday, they will face an FC Cincinnati squad who has lost seven on the bounce (but won at Soldier Field back on June 23rd).

RED STARS:  After their 2-1 win over Kansas City on Saturday night, plus results elsewhere, the Red Stars are now just a single point away from making the playoffs for the sixth successive season.

The Red Stars need just a point at Orlando on October 29th to clinch a playoff spot. For a home playoff match in the first round, the Red Stars would need a win and for either Washington to drop points at home to Houston on Halloween, or for Gotham FC to net at most five points from their remaining three matches (away to Kansas City and a home-and-home against Racing Louisville).

HOUSE AC:  The House missed out on a chance to make it three wins on the bounce after a 1-0 loss to Maryland Bobcats FC. Prior to that, House AC won back-to-back matches against bottom-of-the-table SD 1904 FC. The House host Chattanooga FC on Wednesday at 7:30pm, followed by the Bobcats on Saturday, also at 7:30pm at SeatGeek Stadium.
