New England Revolution 2-Houston Dynamo 0
The Houston Dynamo suffered its second home lost in the season as the Revolution came to Texas and took three important points to remain in the top four in the East. The Orange, who have had a bad start of the season, are in eighth place in the West.
The match started with the Dynamo looking for a quick score. They created many chances, but unfortunately for Wilmer Cabrera’s side, they were not able to unlock the Revolution defense. On the other side, New England started leveling the match, especially in midfield where they were controlling the football. From there, they were using their speed to pressure and attack Houston, who was short handed in defense.
Venezuelan defender Alejandro Fuenmayor made his debut for the home side. His timing and location on the field were way off harming the Dynamo’s back line. New England’s game plan paid off when Teal Bunbury made it 1-0 at the 15th minute mark. From there things would get more complicated for the Dynamo. In the 35th minute the home team lost its captain Damarcus Beasley after he fouled an attacker, who had a clear path to the goal. Even though players and coaching staff wanted the VAR to be used to verify the fouled and position of other players, the referee decided to call the foul and that red card had it to be awarded to the player. From that point on, New England controlled the match and was the team who created many chances to increase the lead.
It was until the second half at the 71th minute that Cristian Penilla scored the final 2-0 after a great play inside the box. His shot passed Houston GK Chris Seitz, who played his 100th MLS match. With this result, Revolution’s coach Brad Friedel will have the serenity to keep training and imposing his ideas to a young and renovated New England team.
On the other side, the Houston Dynamo will have to keep working on their team chemistry. They will struggle in this season since their roster depth is not deep enough, so team work and chemistry is what will help this team succeed this season.
Next for the Dynamo is a visit to the San Jose Earthquakes on April 14, whereas the Revolution will host the Montreal Impact on April 6 at Gillette Stadium.
