FC Cincinnati 0-0 Chicago Fire FC

CINCINATTI, OH—For the third time this season at Nippert Stadium (and fourth in the last five going back to last season), the match ended goalless. This time, it was between FC Cincinnati and Chicago Fire. As a result, two dubious streaks continued. For FC Cincinatti, it’s four matches without a goal since regular season play resumed. For the Fire, it’s now been 397 days since they last won a match away from home that was not in Orlando.

Bobby Shuttleworth returned in goal after missing last Saturday against NYCFC due to a groin injury and was vital from the get go making a first minute save on Maikel van der Werff off a free kick. Shuttleworth would make two other saves on the night.

Both teams had trouble moving the ball around on the turf—the Fire more so for the first half. However, they thought they had a goal in the 70th minute through Ignacio Aliseda, but VAR chalked it off for a handball on Boris Sekulic in the buildup.

Shots on target were at a premium on Wendesday night as the sides combined for just four (three from FC Cincy).

The Fire return to Soldier Field on Sunday to take on New England (6:30pm CT, WGN-TV) while FC Cincinnati travel to Columbus on Saturday to take on the Crew (7:30pm ET, TV-Star 64).
