The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle. Midfielder Carles Gil took the first kick of the match and played the ball directly back to center back Dave Romney before he sent the ball into the right flank of NYCFC’s defensive third.

The first chance of the match for NYCFC came in the 12th minute when a corner kick taken by NYCFC’s #10 Santiago Rodríguez was won by #3 Braian Cufré and his header back into the 6-yard box found #55 Keaton Parks, whose header went just over the crossbar.

Five minutes later, NYCFC continued their attacking threat when #11 Gabriel Pereira took down a long back by #55 Keaton Parks. His touch managed to have Revolution defender Christian Makoun slip, which freed up space for Pereira. He took two touches before having a left footed shot that was easily saved by Petrović.

New England’s first chance of the match came in the 21st minute following an offsides call on Bobby Wood, the player then got a second opportunity entering the penalty area, but his shot was saved by #1 Luis Barraza.

Less than a minute later, #11 Gabriel Pereira unleashed a rocket left-footed curler that was spectacularly saved by Revolution goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović.

Continuing their attacking threat, in the 33rd minute, NYCFC’s #20 Richy Ledezma drove into space from midfield. He drove past Latif Blessing and Matt Polster before unleashing a right-footed shot that went past Đorđe Petrović and struck the woodwork. The ball then entered the area and was sent into the stratosphere by center back Christian Makoun.

In the 43rd minute, New England Revolution midfielder Emmanuel Boateng was issued a yellow card for a foul on NYCFC midfielder #11 Gabriel Pereira.

Following Boateng’s yellow card, the match entered halftime with a deadlock scoreline of 0-0.

Entering the second half, Head Coach Bruce Arena made his first substitution of the match by replacing forward Jozy Altidore with designated player forward Giacomo Vrioni. Reports state that Jozy Altidore did not come back out for the second half.

The second half began with NYCFC starting from the midfield kickoff and sending the ball directly backwards to their goalkeeper #1 Luis Barraza. He sent the ball directly up the middle of the field for a 50-50 ball to start the second half.

Seven minutes later, Giacomo Vrioni had a chance of his own following and interception by Matt Polster. The shot was easily saved by #1 Luis Barraza.

Moments later, NYCFC on the counterattack were thwarted by Đorđe Petrović. Midfielder #55 Keaton Parks managed to turn midfielder Latif Blessing before sending a pass into the middle of the field to find an unmarked midfielder #20 Richy Ledezma. He played a one-touch pass backwards to midfielder #10 Santiago Rodríguez before his through ball went passed Andrew Farrell, Christian Makoun, and Dave Romney. Moments later, the Revolution had a crucial chance after Carles Gil was fouled just outside the NYCFC penalty area. The referee did not call for the foul and the ball cleared by #55 Keaton Parks was hit one time by midfielder Matt Polster, who sent the ball just wide of the right post.

Entering the 91st minute, New York City FC defender #3 Braian Cufré was issued a straight red card for a foul on DeJuan Jones. After Video Review stepped in, the center official deemed that though Cufré had played the ball at first prior to the studs up challenge on Jones, it was still dangerous play and the center official stood with the straight red card. After the 90 minutes and 7 added minutes, the match ended as a draw as both teams walk away with 1 point a piece.
