Sporting KC Monday Musings

Sporting Kansas City 1 Real Salt Lake 3

For the second time at Children’s Mercy Park Sporting welcomed Real Salt Lake and the visitors proceeded to take out the hosts in a rather comprehensive fashion.

Coming off their recent win against Orlando it seemed possible that Sporting would restart their season after an extended skid.

End result was RSL putting Peter Vermes and company to the sword.

Defensively Sporting Kansas City has been leaky.

For the first goal, despite so much scrambling, Juan Martinez was left unmarked. Focusing on the the ball and not the opposing player is considered fundamental and that found the initial breakthrough.

Offensively speaking there was not as many opportunities as the record setting effort the previous week. But admittedly it provides for opportunities on the counter attack when Sporting pushes for a goal.

Second goal there is little explaining and reasoning about it. On a corner kick a ball goes in off of Brad Davis right before the end of the second half. Kinda hard to fully recover after that.

Sure a Dom Dwyer goal made a comeback a real possibility but again a defensive break down hit Sporting Kansas City.

In 2016 you can add Yura Movsisyan to the list of players who by personal dribbling and separation scored individual goals of quality. Previously it was Giovani Dos Santos and and Sebastian Giovinco, who exceedingly top end strikers. This time it is a former Sporting player who went to Europe and did well at that level.

All said a rough day at the office for Sporting Kansas City that needs to be put in the back window with a match against DC United.

Sporting National Team Call Ups

Three members of Sporting Kansas City’s roster have been called up by their respective national teams for this summer’s Copa America.

Rather expected Jurgen Klinsmann called into the USMNT Matt Besler and Graham Zusi. They didn’t meet up for the friendly against Puerto Rico but will be with the team. Anticipated they should be missing maximum five league matches and the fourth round of the US Open Cup.

Soni Mustivar has been called into the Haiti national team. The island nation qualified to the Copa America winning their play in match over Trinidad and Tobago in January. This will be a big step for this squad who is looking to get a restart on the World Cup qualifying campaign

Swope Park Rangers 1 Rio Grande Valley FC 4

The Rangers lost their third consecutive away match as they visited fellow USL debutante Rio Grande Valley.

This being their first season it has yet to be seen what direction the squad will be going. Points so far have been mostly picked up at home.

It being still early in the season its more of a lets see and react. The exceptional amount of youth products from the Sporting KC academy will be giving the players the opportunity to continue to develop at a heightened level.

The youth Hungarian international Daniel Salloi scored another goal. Three goals and three assists from seven matches played are showing the homegrown player to be adapting to this level rather quickly.
