According to ESPN’S reporter Jeff Carlisle per league sources, that the Portland Timbers have made their first signing in Croatian center-back Dario Zuparic from HNK Rijeka.
If you recall in the Portland Timbers last press conference of the season, the club was interested to acquire in the offseason, a center- back, forward, winger, midfielder and a right back.
So far, the Rose City side has made its first signing of the season with center back Dario Zuparic to reinforce a troubled center back position plagued last season with injuries and no consistency in its game.
With Claude Dielna put in the unprotected list of players, Dario Župarić will join Larry’s Mabiala, Julio Cascante, and Bill Tuiloma, the Timbers protected these three ahead of today’s league Expansion Draft.
The arrival of Dario Župarić will be ideal to reinforce the center part of Portland’s defensive backfield in what last season the Timbers defense was ranked 10th out of 24 teams and allowing a whopping 49 goals in 34 games.
The transfer fees being unknown but with help of Targeted Allocation Money (TAM), this made it possible for the arrival of the man from the Balkans, being on the radar of English sides Sheffield United and Fulham.
He represented Bosnia’s U19 and later switching to Croatia and represented it in both U20 and U21 levels.
