The Sounders and the Revolution played to a tedious draw on Saturday in Foxboro. The Sounders coming off a road win against Colorado on the fourth of July got a valuable point on the road. The Sounders playing their game in a week had Clint Dempsey on the bench for second straight game. Wolfe Eikram with a rare start on the wing to go with Loderio and Rodriguez in the midfield Will Bruin up top. Jordy Delem making his second straight start again partners with Cristian Roldan. Kim and Marshall with McCrary and Nouhou back from a one game suspension for yellow card accumulation. Frei back between the pipes.
The game started slow with both teams unable to break the other team down. Sounders quite content to let the game come to them and play on the counter. Neither team created much in the offensive third. Tempers started to flair at the end of the half as Fagundez received a yellow for a hard challenge on Roldan. Loderio got a yellow a minute later for a tackle on Rowe. The half ended scoreless with no shots on target for either side.
The second half started with more of the same. New England with more of the ball but no answers for the Seattle defense. Sounders with rare forays into the attacking third were having trouble creating chances. The first shot on target came in the 50th minute as Loderio with long range blast trying to catch the keeper off his line. Both teams tried to ramp up the attack with the revs bringing on Juan Agudelo in the 56th minute. The Sounders countered that move bringing on Clint Dempsey in the 61st. The introduction of the two didnt really change the match as both teams offered little going forward.
The final 10 minutes of the match created the most chances of the night. New England pushing for the win at home had more of the ball in the attacking third but the Sounder defense was up to the challenge. The Sounders defending with conviction blocking shots and creating some scary moments on the counter but could not sustain it.
The Sounders holding on at the end as Delem and Nouhou getting yellows for professional fouls. The game ends after the 3 minutes of added time and a flurry of chances for the Revs but the Sounders defense holds.
The Sounders with their second clean sheet of the season. Now unbeaten in two the Sounders travel to Atlanta next Sunday and are hoping that their newest signing Raul Ruidiaz will be eligible to play. The Sounders need to put a run together if the playoff streak is going to continue.
