Slovakia bounced back from their opening defeat to Wales to beat Russia 2-1 in Lille.

Two first half goals from Vladimir Weiss and Marek Hamsik sealed a convincing win for the Slovaks Denis Glushavok of Spartak Moscow pulled one back in the 80th minute but they could not force the late equaliser as they had against England.

The Slovaks became the first side to score twice in the first half in this competition and looked a well balanced side throughout, dangerous in attack and composed at the back when under pressure.

They move to three points having lost to Wales two ahead of Russia. Russia, already under threat of expulsion for their fans’ behaviour, stay at one point and now face Wales in their final match.
