Sebastian Blanco returns to the Portland Timbers for two more years as a Designated Player through the 2023 season. Giovanni Savarese is happy with what Blanco can contribute for the team along with his passion on the field and the contributions he brings in every match.

As his referents speak highly of him in his time in Rose City with his accomplishments stand out two Western Conference Championship titles (2018, 2021) and win in 2020 the MLS is Back Tournament and becoming the event MVP.

Sebastian Blanco, 33, still has a lot of good football left. The Timbers will see in him a leader and one that players such as Santiago Moreno and newcomer David Ayala can learn under his leadership and wisdom.

Blanco is entering his sixth season with the Timbers and for sure he will be looking for a repeat of last season’s achievements when Portland takes the field against New England Revolution for the season opener. His accomplishments since his arrival in Rose City make him an all-around stand-out with the team for all his feats.

In his time with the Timbers, he has started in 109 of 127 regular-season appearances, scoring 33 goals and tallying 42 assists since making his debut back in 2017. Blanco has logged 139 starts in 149 appearances including in 2020 when he became a leader in winning the MLS is Back Tournament with two goals and two assists in four matches.

In 2021, Blanco recovered from an injury that sidelined him in 2020 and return as a starter in 12 out of 24 regular-season games and scored seven goals with the same number of assists. Other achievements include being in MLS Team of the Week (Weeks 24, 25, & 34) as well delivering a brace against Real Salt Lake to clinch a pass into the postseason.

Sebastian Blanco undoubtedly will become the team captain and as the Timbers readies for another challenging season, the pieces of the puzzle are coming together for the Timbers to be a contender.

The man comes home and after rumors of moving to MLS side RSL or Argentine giant Boca Juniors. Seba is back and ready to rock the league and lead the Portland Timbers to that elusive MLS Shield.
